Ready for 2025

yes, it is rocket science ...

The world of technology is changing at an amazingly fast pace, and that includes Air Conditioning an Heating Systems as well.  With the US Government  pushing a Clean Agenda, new regulations for Energy Efficiency and Environmentally Safe Practices are at an unprecedented rate of change.

Not everyone can keep up.

The last 4 years have been extremely challenging.

We invest in keeping our Technicians trained to tackle the latest changes in HVAC technology, the latest in Code Compliance, and we invest in the Professional Tools needed to stay on top of one of the most rapidly advancing industries in America!

EPA Mandates for 2025

Starting January 1, 2025, new rules set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will impact air conditioning and heating systems. Here's what you need to know:Refrigerant Transition The widely used R-410A refrigerant in residential HVAC systems will be replaced by R-454B and R-32. These newer refrigerants are designed to have a significantly lower global warming potential (GWP) compared to R-410A, which has a GWP of approximately 2,000. This change is part of an initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate ozone layer damage.GWP Limits As of 2025, all newly manufactured air conditioners must adhere to a GWP threshold of 750 or lower, ensuring they contribute less to global warming.HFC Restrictions Products containing hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) or HFC blends with high GWP will be restricted from manufacturing, distribution, sale, installation, import, and export.Impact on Costs These regulatory updates are expected to drive up the cost of air conditioning systems. Transitioning to higher-efficiency units and adopting new refrigerants will increase production expenses. Additionally, manufacturers are scaling back production of older models to prioritize compliant systems.Steps to Prepare To get ready for the upcoming changes, consider the following actions:Schedule an HVAC system inspection with a certified professional. Replace your system before the new regulations take effect, if needed. Take advantage of available Federal Tax Credits in 2024 to offset costs.

Tools For 2025

The HVAC industry will face significant changes in 2025 with the introduction of new regulations phasing out R-410A refrigerant in favor of environmentally friendly alternatives like R-32 and R-454B. This transition will require technicians to adapt by upgrading their tools and skills to work with these refrigerants effectively and safely. Here are the key impacts:Compatibility Challenges Existing HVAC tools, such as gauges and vacuum pumps, may not work with the new refrigerants. Technicians will need to replace or modify their equipment to ensure accurate pressure readings and proper functionality.Enhanced Safety Features The properties of the new refrigerants, including lower flammability levels, may necessitate tools with advanced safety mechanisms to prevent accidents and ensure safe handling during maintenance and repair tasks.Specialized Equipment Needs Recovery and recycling units, designed specifically for R-32 and R-454B, may become essential for properly managing these new refrigerants. Upgrading to such equipment will be a priority for compliance and efficiency.Training for Technicians To work effectively with the updated tools and refrigerants, technicians will need specialized training. This education will focus on understanding the unique characteristics of the new refrigerants and mastering the operation of new or modified tools. These changes will increase costs for equipment upgrades and training, but they are necessary to meet regulatory requirements and maintain safe, efficient HVAC operations.

Training Accomplishments for 2025

There are several types of training available for HVAC technicians in Florida to achieve A2L competency, including:• Certificate programs These programs can prepare students for entry-level positions in the HVAC/R field. For example, Eastern Florida State College offers a Career and Technical Certificate (CTC) program that includes training in basic refrigeration, residential systems, and more.A2L refrigerant training Training is available from organizations such as: • ACCA: Offers online and in-person training • Apartment Association of Greater Orlando: Offers A2L Low GWP Refrigerant Training and Certification Courses • EPA grant programs The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) offers grant programs to states to support training and certification of technicians who handle refrigerants
